Civic, Social & Polictical Education was introduced as an obligatory subject in the Junior Cert curriculum in 1997. It is a course in active citizenship, which is based on human rights and social responsibilities.

In this subject, the students are given opportunities to become active citizens within their classroom, school, community and beyond. The subject is assessed through a project (60%) and a Junior Cert Exam (40%).
