The English Department in Coláiste Chríost Rí is committed to recognising each boy's potential and to bringing that potential to fruition.

We have six full-time English teachers at Leaving Cert level and ten at Junior Cert level. Leaving Cert cycle have six class periods a week, while Junior Cert have five. Transition Years also have five. Homework is given every day in this subject and parents are encouraged to monitor it.

Modern English teaching necessitates the use of visual material and in this regard we have the full range of audio-visual equipment. Our library is very well stocked and is a quiet place where boys are encouraged to study and to do research. Our teachers also have their own resource room.

Drama and film are studied at both an academic and a practical level in Transition Year.

A full learning support system is also available.

We are precluded from giving detailed statistics,
However:

• More than half of our students sit English at Higher Level in both Junior Cert and Leaving Cert Examinations.
• The number of 'A' grades achieved exceeds the national average annually.
• Significantly more than half achieve honours grades. ie. A, B, C.
• Failure rate is minimal.
