Mathematics |
We in the Maths Department agree that there is no royal road to mathematics. Mathematics requires learning, teaching and most of all doing. Computers, videos and all modern technology aid the learning of Mathematics, but they cannot substitute each student's endeavour to comprehend and solve problems. First Year Text book for all classes - New Concise Maths 1 for Junior Cert. All students sit the Irish Maths Contest and some take the Canadian Gauss Test. Second Year Classes are set to give each student the opportunity of studying the syllabus suited to his ability. Students are given the opportunity to sit the Pascal Mathematics Competition. Third Year The setting of second year is continued in third year to facilitate students in their preparation for the Junior Certificate. Students doing the A syllabus use New Concise Maths 2. They are also given the opportunity to take part in the Caley Mathematics Competition. Fourth Year (Transition) The Junior Certificate A syllabus is consolidated and new mathematical topics are introduced. Students take part in the Fermat Competition. Fifth and Sixth Year Students are given the opportunity to follow a syllabus suited to their ability. The facility to study Applied Maths, as an additional subject, is also provided. School teams participate annually in Maths Competitions. Last year Coláiste Chríost Rí came joint second in the Team Math Competition, scoring 19 points out of a possible 20. This is an inter schools contest for Leaving Certificate Honours students. |
