Students are strongly advised to examine closely the programmes on offer in UCC, with a view to continuing their education into third level and beyond. Big numbers of our senior students attended the UCC Open Day, that ran throughout the day, on the second Saturday of the month of October 2007. To follow up on this event, we were delighted to welcome back Jeremy Hayes, past pupil from 1995 to speak to a large number of our Leaving Cert students on the topic of the Business Information Systems Degree and to answer any questions posed by them. This event took place on Tuesday, 13th November and was followed three days later by Anne Wallace, speaking on the entire range of Business and Law degrees in UCC. It is hoped that all these events will help our senior students as they finalise their CAO forms at this time. |

Immersion Programme 2007 |
On 23rd October 2007 a group from Coláiste Chríost Rí set off for St. Lucia in the West Indies on an Immersion programme with the Presentation Brothers. Here are extracts from a report completed by Paul Cahill, one of the participants: "We received one of the warmest and most friendly welcomes that any of us had ever experienced. Over the course of the trip, we visited the different C.A.R.E. centres run by the Presentation Brothers around the island. These centres cater for young adolescents who are unable to attend secondary school due to the cost or because of previous academic failure. After some initial reluctance the trainees soon allowed us get to know them and share in their vibrant culture and some eye-opening personal experiences." "Another highlight was the painting of a nursery school in an extremely poor place called 'Coolie Town'. Again, the C.A.R.E. trainees helped us and shared generously with us. We visited various communities and attractions around this exotic island in the company of our hospitable hosts. We learned a lot of new ways to look at life. The great sense of warmth there has been replaced here by rampant materialism, unfortunately." He finishes by stating that it was definitely the best experience of their lives and that they've learned a lot from it. |
