Resource Teaching

Coláiste Chríost Rí offers extra tuition called resource teaching (formerly referred to as special need teaching). Resource teaching involves tuition on an individual basis, or in a small group situation, to students who have certain learning difficulties. Resource teaching is usually centred around literacy and numeracy. Where the need arises, students may also obtain resource teaching hours in particular subject areas. Submissions for resource teaching are carried out in advance of the school year and must be accompanied by an assessment that is less than two years old.

The resource teacher assists the subject teacher in modifying the curriculum to suit the educational needs of the student in receipt of resource teaching hours. This support may be continued for the students length of stay in secondary school.

The number of teaching periods a students receives will be based on the particular needs of that student. Resource teaching hours are sanctioned by the Department of Education. Resource teaching involves the co-operation and support of the learning support teachers, guidance counsellors and subject teachers. At present, resource teaching is available in all secondary schools.
